How can artificial intelligence be biased? Bias in artificial intelligence is when a machine gives consistently different outputs for one group of people when compared to another. Typically these biased outputs follow classic human societal biases like race, gender, biological sex, nationality, or age. Biases can be as a result of assumptions made by the engineers who developed the AI, or they can be as a result of prejudices in the training data that taught the AI, which is what Johann Diedrick explains in the latest edition of Mozilla Explains. Learn more about Diedrick’s project, Dark Matters: https://foundation.mozilla.org/blog/dark-matters-new-project-spotlights-the-inbuilt-bias-in-digital-voice-assistants/ Featured in this video, Survival of the Best Fit is a Mozilla Creative Media awardee built by Jihyun Kim, Gábor Csapo, Miha Klasinc, and Alia ElKattan. 3 minute explanation of Ethereum by inventor Vitalik Buterin. Ethereum is a platform that makes it possible for any developer to write and distribute next-generation decentralized applications. Borrowing the concept of distributed consensus and cryptographic proof that makes cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin so effective in trustless payments, Ethereum extends the use of these technologies to trustless agreements. This allows developers to easily build innovative new products on a censorship and collusion-resistant foundation. Ethereum will go live in Q4 2014, in the meantime we are regularly releasing alpha software so you can try your hand at building distributed applications. In a recent article on Medium, Los Angeles Entrepreneur, Consultant, investor, and TED speaker Sid Mohasseb argued that the AI train has left the station and attempts to stop it will be futile. In the last few months, we have seen even more pessimism spread onto AI from the likes of Elon Musk and Bill Gates. The media have given a lot of echoes, perhaps purposely given that the topic increases eyeballs, to these opinion makers. At a recent Joe Rogan Youtube interview, Elon Musk reiterated that AI is potentially more dangerous than nuclear weapons and that it is insane for the government not to regulate it. In this interview with Paolo Messina, Sid revisits and expands his previous conclusions. At first, he digs in the concept of the human ability to adapt to a changed scenario. He articulates a clear and crispy business vision. His viewpoint is that as long as AI creates business value adoption will make sense and will result in an overall benefit for business and society. When it comes to job disruption, the ability of machines to take over human society, Sid has a very simple yet profound viewpoint. He exemplifies it with an example. He says that when we invented the knife we could have claimed that it could be used to kill people and that we would lose the ability to chew raw meat well, finally saying that our teethes would become less sharp and effective. However, when we look at the invention [More]
