In 1960, as a pioneering researcher in systems biology, Denis Noble, now Professor emeritus and codirector of Computational Physiology at the University of Oxford, developed the first computer model of the working human heart. Since then, the use of software to simulate biological organs has expanded hugely. and the power of technology continues to grow with the likes of artificial intelligence.
