Anima Anandkumar of Caltech and NVIDIA. This talk was given on April 1, 2022. Autonomous robots need to be efficient and agile, and be able to handle a wide range of tasks and environmental conditions. This requires the ability to learn good representations of domains and tasks using a variety of sources such as demonstrations and simulations. Representation learning for robotic tasks needs to be generalizable and robust. I will describe some key ingredients to enable this: (1) robust self-supervised learning (2) uncertainty awareness (3) compositionality. We utilize NVIDIA Isaac for GPU-accelerated robot learning at scale on a variety of tasks and domains. 00:48 Generlizable Learning for Robotics 01:53 Trinity of Generalizable AI 05:08 Physical World if Continuous 07:08 Motivating Problem in Robotics 08:35 State estimation through PDE observer 09:59 Grid-free learning for continuous phenomena 12:32 Neural Operator 15:02 Fourier Transform for global convolution 16:06 FNO: Fourier Neural Operator 18:34 First ML method to solve fluid flow 25:42 Nvidia Modulus 29:08 Operational Space Control (OSC) 38:54 Reducing Supervision and enhancing robustness 47:06 Conclusion Learn more about Stanford Online’s Robotics Program and courses here:

The nature of the Indian legal profession is such that the entire procedure is done manually since the legal sector is still believed to be labour-intensive. As a result, AI is still in its early phases, with many older champions believing that technology should not be employed extensively since it may eventually take over man. But is it so? Can human-designed technology take over humans? Can justice system be handed over to machines? To answer these and a ton more like these, we have with us Dr. Adv. Sudhakar Avhad Sir! If you have a smartphone, you have AI in your pocket. AI is impossible to avoid online. And it has already changed everything from how doctors diagnose disease to how you interact with friends or read the news. But in Rule of the Robots, Martin Ford argues that the true revolution is yet to come. Martin presents a striking vision of the very near future. He argues that AI is a uniquely powerful technology that is altering every dimension of human life, often for the better. For example, advanced science is being done by machines, solving devilish problems in molecular biology that humans could not, and AI can help us fight climate change or the next pandemic. It also has a capacity for profound harm. Deep fakes—AI-generated audio or video of events that never happened—are poised to cause havoc throughout society. AI empowers authoritarian regimes like China with unprecedented mechanisms for social control. And AI can be deeply biased, learning bigoted attitudes from us and perpetuating them. In short, this is not a technology to simply embrace, or let others worry about. The machines are coming, and they won’t stop, and each of us needs to know what that means if we are to thrive in the twenty-first century. And Rule of the Robots is the essential guide to all of it: both AI and the future of our economy, our politics, our lives. Join Martin Ford and CDT Director Vijay Gurbaxani in a discussion about what happens as AI [More]
This #ameca demo couples automated speech recognition with GPT 3 – a large language model that generates meaningful answers – the output is fed to an online TTS service which generates the voice and visemes for lip sync timing. The team at Engineered Arts ltd pose the questions. Nothing in this video is pre scripted – the model is given a basic prompt describing Ameca, giving the robot a description of self – its pure #ai The pauses are the time lag for processing the speech input, generating the answer and processing the text back into speech More on Aliens, Robots, A.I and The Singularity: Do Robot Aliens Exist? When First Contact is made…will it be with biological creatures or profoundly sophisticated and intelligent robots or artificial life forms. Though hundreds of scientists and philosophers are heralding the impending Singularity, or birth of the first self aware computer, few futurists outside of sci-fi writers are talking about the possibility that artificial intelligence is already out there…and has been so for millennia. “Most people have an iconic idea of aliens as these biological creatures, but that doesn’t make any sense from a timescale argument,” – Susan Schneider, a professor of philosophy at the University of Connecticut. Think about it. By the time a civilization learns to send radio signals, they’re already a hop-skip away from upgrading their own biology. “As soon as a civilization invents radio, they’re within fifty years of computers, then, probably, only another fifty to a hundred years from inventing AI. At that point, soft, squishy brains become an outdated model.” – Seth Shostak, SETI Take human beings for example. Aside from our own rapidly developing computer technology we have new developments in neural implants, brain/computer interface, biological and quantum computing. Our own Singularity is at hand! So imagine an alien civilisation much older with technology far more advanced than ours. Many astronomers believe that if an alien civilization is already “radio-hot” then they are probably thousands to millions of years older than we are. “The way you reach this conclusion is very [More]

Robots and machines could soon replace humans in the workplace as artificial intelligence improves. Imagine having colleagues controlled by computers. Part 2: Society is facing radical changes. Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution – is the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. Artificial intelligence is constantly gaining ground. The digital era and the Internet are not just changing industrial production processes. An increasing number of jobless people are facing stiff competition from intelligent machines. One software company owner in the US even says the machines are better designed to do most jobs than people are. And that isn’t just restricted to the car industry. Workers cost money and employers are out to minimize labor costs. What will that mean? Soon there could be more intelligent robots and machines than humans and they could soon be replacing people in the workplace. Industry 4.0 poses a great challenge to the world as we know it and millions of people could lose out in the process.
