“Sono-optogenetics”: An ultrasound-mediated non-invasive optogenetic brain-computer interface

Abstract: Optogenetics, which uses light to control genetically modified neurons, provides an alternative to conventional deep-brain stimulation (DBS) approach with neuron-type specificity for closed-loop, bidirectional brain-computer interface (BCI).1-3 As an example of the hybrid BCI platform, optogenetic micro-electrocorticography (ECoG) offers a unique method to localize neural signal sources, thus affording higher precision of neural decoding for BCI applications.
