The question is not if robotic process automation is going to impact your organization, the question is when. It's being implemented across companies in all industries of all shapes and all sizes. It shifts the mundane routine transaction activities from humans to bots or computers which allows your human employees to focus on activities that require judgment, reasoning and higher value added activities.
The insurance industry specifically has tons of data associated with it. It's an amazing amount of transactions and processes. And at Microsoft we want to highlight three distinct use cases that you as an organization could be thinking about as your insurance company begins to dip its toe in the water of robotic process automation.
First is underwriting. Underwriting involves a tremendous amount of data collection from multiple sources. And once that data is collected it needs to be applied through a series of rules associated with risk and historical performance. And all of that is organized and then it can be sent to humans as needed for final evaluation and approval.
The second area would be Policy Administration. Within policy administration you have items such as accounting, taxes, compliance and these are very routine that occur every renewal or every specific time frame and can be automated to take that mundane task away from humans again to allow them to work on more value added tasks.
And the third area is Claims Processing that might begin with OCR - Optical Character Recognition where it scans in data that may have been filled out hand written and begins the claim processing and verifying coverage and ensuring claims verification. And once again it can escalate to a human for approval processes.
If you'd like to understand how RPA (Robotic Process Automation) can be applied at your organization, contact Allen Shapiro at Macrosoft, who will be happy to discuss how we can benefit best work with you.
