Predictive Quality Assessment in Grinding Process

Mastering the increasingly complex manufacturing processes is a growing challenge and is further intensified by the shortage of skilled workers. The aim of the project is to address this increasing complexity with artificial intelligence (AI) methods and to implement a predictive quality assessment in manufacturing that reduces the workload of skilled staff through a digital master* (DQ master*). The three main quality assurance tasks are:
a) Process planning,
b) process monitoring and
c) process optimization.
Specifically, the following AI methods will be used for the three tasks a) expert system b) data-driven digital twins and c) ‘eXplainable AI’ for root cause analysis related to quality assurance. Integration of various sensors through the Raspberry Pi as an edge computing platform was performed to realize synchronization of sensors and automation of measurements.
