BigDog handles heavy objects. The goal is to use the strength of the legs and torso to help power motions of the arm. This sort of dynamic, whole-body approach to manipulation is used routinely by human athletes and will enhance the performance of advanced robots. Boston Dynamics is developing the control and actuation techniques needed for dynamic manipulation. The cinderblock weighs about 35 lbs and the best throw is a bit more than 17 ft. The research is funded by the Army Research Laboratory’s RCTA program.
PETMAN is an anthropomorphic robot developed by Boston Dynamics for testing special clothing used by US military personnel. PETMAN balances itself as it walks, squats and does calisthenics. PETMAN simulates human physiology by controlling temperature, humidity and sweating inside the clothing to provide realistic test conditions. PETMAN development is lead by Boston Dynamics, working in partnership with Measurement Technologies Northwest, Oak Ridge National Lab and MRIGlobal. The work is being done for the DoD CBDP. For more information about PETMAN visit us at www.BostonDynamics.com.

The PETMAN robot was developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from the DoD CBD program. It is used to test the performance of protective clothing designed for hazardous environments. The video shows initial testing in a chemical protection suit and gas mask. PETMAN has sensors embedded in its skin that detect any chemicals leaking through the suit. The skin also maintains a micro-climate inside the clothing by sweating and regulating temperature. Partners in developing PETMAN were MRIGlobal, Measurement Technology Northwest, Smith Carter, SRD, CUH2A, and HHI.
BigDog climbs in the woods, keeps its balance when kicked and when slipping on ice, travels through snow and mud, jogs 5 mph, and climbs some rubble.
Handle is a research robot that stands 6.5 ft tall, travels at 9 mph and jumps 4 feet vertically. It uses electric power to operate both electric and hydraulic actuators, with a range of about 15 miles on one battery charge. Handle uses many of the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation principles found in the quadruped and biped robots we build, but with only about 10 actuated joints, it is significantly less complex. Wheels are efficient on flat surfaces while legs can go almost anywhere: by combining wheels and legs Handle can have the best of both worlds.
Cheetah Robot is a fast-running quadruped developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA. It just blazed past its previous speed record, getting up to 28.3 mph, about 0.5 mph faster than Usain Bolt’s fastest 20 meter split. This version of the Cheetah Robot runs on a treadmill with offboard power. Testing on an untethered outdoor version starts early next year. For more information about Cheetah or the other robots we develop, visit www.BostonDynamics.com.
SpotMini is a new smaller version of the Spot robot, weighing 55 lbs dripping wet (65 lbs if you include its arm.) SpotMini is all-electric (no hydraulics) and runs for about 90 minutes on a charge, depending on what it is doing. SpotMini is one of the quietest robots we have ever built. It has a variety of sensors, including depth cameras, a solid state gyro (IMU) and proprioception sensors in the limbs. These sensors help with navigation and mobile manipulation. SpotMini performs some tasks autonomously, but often uses a human for high-level guidance. For more information about SpotMini visit our website at www.BostonDynamics.com
Sand Flea is an 11-lb robot with one trick up its sleeve: Normally it drives like an RC car, but when it needs to it can jump 30 feet into the air. An onboard stabilization system keeps it oriented during flight to improve the view from the video uplink and to control landings. Current development of Sand Flea is funded by the The US Army’s Rapid Equipping Force. For more information visit www.BostonDynamics.com.

What have you been up to lately, Atlas?
Spot is a four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. Spot has a sensor head that helps it navigate and negotiate rough terrain. Spot weighs about 160 lbs.
Boston Dynamics just released a new video of the Big Dog on ice and snow, and also demoing its walking gait.
WildCat is a four-legged robot being developed to run fast on all types of terrain. So far WildCat has run at about 19 mph on flat terrain using bounding and galloping gaits. The video shows WildCat’s best performance so far. WildCat is being developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA’s M3 program. For more information about WIldCat visit our website at www.BostonDynamics.com.
A new version of Atlas, designed to operate outdoors and inside buildings. It is specialized for mobile manipulation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects. This version of Atlas is about 5′ 9″ tall (about a head shorter than the DRC Atlas) and weighs 180 lbs.
Our solar system now is tied for most number of planets around a single star, with the recent discovery of an eighth planet circling Kepler-90, a Sun-like star 2,545 light years from Earth. The planet was discovered in data from NASA’s Kepler space telescope. The newly-discovered Kepler-90i — a sizzling hot, rocky planet that orbits its star once every 14.4 days — was found by researchers from Google and The University of Texas at Austin using machine learning. Machine learning is an approach to artificial intelligence in which computers “learn.” In this case, computers learned to identify planets by finding in Kepler data instances where the telescope recorded signals from planets beyond our solar system, known as exoplanets. The Dangers of Artificial Intelligence – Robot Sophia jokes and makes fun of Elon Musk – A.I. 2017 – 2ndEarth Alternative (22/04/2017) ** For your viewing pleasure we do not run ads in this video. Help support this channel and keep it growing by donating here: https://www.paypal.me/2ndEarth Robots are more advanced than many of us may think. They are fully capable of having real world conversations, and have the mental and cognitive structures to eventually surpass humanity in 3-5 years according to Hanson Robotic chief scientist Ben Goertzel. Elon Musk with his Artificial Intelligence company OpenAI, which studies the potential dangers associated with A.I. has been adamantly warning humanity that Artificial Intelligence poses one of the biggest impending dangers humanity must confront in the coming years. The Russians are also in the A.I. game, and have essentially built a Terminator like war robot termed Fedor. They have a robot that doesn’t just accurately shoots targets, but also drives a car, which puts a whole new terms to the concepts of Self driving cars. ∆ EMAIL: EAFiles.contact@gmail.com • SUBSCRIBE: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=2ndEarth 2ndEarth EPISODES EPISODE 1: https://youtu.be/wChZ0pH-eBs EPISODE 2: https://youtu.be/gZcMQ70Mmp0 EPISODE 3: https://youtu.be/ftOe8nTN4LE EPISODE 4: https://youtu.be/zkRx4mc7cKE EPISODE 5: https://youtu.be/kR4kuRHYiCA EPISODE 6: https://youtu.be/hIvv7L3-gzM EPISODE 7: https://youtu.be/UPNf5A82WhE EPISODE 8: https://youtu.be/_wAZZ9Aqlmw EPISODE 9: https://youtu.be/nrnKMY_1fGY EPISODE 10: https://youtu.be/V0jiI2jpZkY EPISODE 11: https://youtu.be/A2omreeBXJY EPISODE 12: https://youtu.be/1C8GRUBuy5g UFOs in Plain Sight: https://youtu.be/GV7lwoJrIT8 EPISODE 13: https://youtu.be/EaQaq9zKifc EPISODE 14: https://youtu.be/3jPpfbD9ti8 EPISODE 15: https://youtu.be/GvFpF-ETAzU EPISODE 16: https://youtu.be/AR3zviUc4ZU EPISODE 17: https://youtu.be/4pfB0OZy7yo EPISODE 18: https://youtu.be/0fxOVgeczPA EPISODE 19: https://youtu.be/7ctyIRGdQhI A Tiny Blue dot: https://youtu.be/9Ibe-ZeOPps
Scientists at SONY CSL Research Laboratory have created the first-ever entire songs composed by Artificial Intelligence: “Daddy’s Car” and “Mister Shadow”. The researchers have developed FlowMachines, a system that learns music styles from a huge database of songs. Exploiting unique combinations of style transfer, optimization and interaction techniques, FlowMachines composes novel songs in many styles. “Mister Shadow” is composed in the style of American songwriters such as Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Cole Porter. French composer Benoît Carré arranged and produced the songs, and wrote the lyrics. The two songs are excerpts of albums composed by Artificial Intelligence to be released in 2017. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union’s Seventy Framework Programme (EP7/2007-2013 Grant Agreement no.291156). The research leading to these results has been conducted by Pierre and Marie Curie University (UPMC) and Sony Computer Science Laboratories Paris(Sony CSL Paris) For more info: http://www.flow-machines.com/ https://soundcloud.com/user-547260463
