At Xponential, we met with Thomas Eder from Nokia for industries, who shared with us an exciting application of their drone network technology in the field of emergency services.

Nokia have positioned themselves as a solution provider for 4G and 5G connected drones.

Last year, in partnership with Citymesh, they deployed their Nokia Drone Network platform launching 70 drone-in-a-box units across Belgium:
These units provide secure 5G-connected drone services across Belgium including remote areas where connectivity is limited.
Each unit is equipped with video and thermal cameras, and drones are always ready to go, on stand-by 24/7 and remotely managed from five centralized operations centers.

The Belgium emergency services can receive more than 2 million calls per year, so arriving at the site of an emergency fully-informed on the situation is vital. This solution allows for real-time, aerial data collection to happen within the critical first minutes of an emergency, to prepare emergency services before they arrive onsite.
