Neuroscience trick to blow your friend's brains #neuroscience

Are they ignoring you or are you on their right side?

Neuroscience is full of surprising things your body does, and Pseudoneglect is one of them.

Your brain’s right side hemisphere is responsible for “Visio-spatial attention’, which means paying attention to the visual space around you. And it tends to pay more attention to the left side than the right.

Now this difference is minimal in everyday life and is only noticeable when tested for it specifically. Which you can do this weekend with your friends

But in people with right side brain injury, hemi-neglect (or ignoring one half of the world) becomes very obvious. These folks would only eat food from one half of the plate or describe half of a photograph. They may even ignore half of their own body, wash only half of themselves during a bath.

Interestingly, while both right and left handed folks show this pseudoneglect effect, it is seen more in right handed people. Which means using more of your left hand for tasks, may correct this bias. Try it out.
