THE FUTURE IS HERE

Extension of Self | Dr. Chris Duncan | TEDxJacksonHole

Dr. Chris Duncan’s work does more than help amputees regain sensory and motor control. He transforms their lives. His research in advanced neuroprosthetics helps people who’ve lost a limb, regain function with performance similar to a natural hand. Dr. Duncan has been at the forefront of creating the latest generation of brain-controlled prosthetics for patients with upper limb amputations.
Dr. Duncan’s research is focused on the restoration of movement and sensation for amputees through the development of advanced neuroprosthetics that can tap into and communicate with the nerves and muscles. His overarching aim is to restore and elevate function in upper limb prosthetics to rival the natural hand. In collaboration with a strong interdisciplinary team, Dr. Duncan has published on decreasing phantom limb pain after nerve injury and amputation, nerve and muscle signal decoding algorithms, and the meaningfulness of sensory restoration for embodiment and improved function. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
