Dr. Herbert York, a distinguished nuclear physicist, founded the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) as well as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Defense Research and Engineering Directorate. He was the founding chancellor of UC San Diego and first director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (1952-1958).
The Herb York Lecture honors Dr. York's memory and the myriad contributions he made to the field of international security and arms control.
