For those who have long worried that the military’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) would inevitably lead to a war between man and machine as we’ve seen in movies like the Terminator franchise, this story seemed like nothing short of vindication. News outlets and content creators all over the world quickly saw this story as a perfect opportunity to leverage that pervasive fear to drive clicks, views, comments, and shares.
