Cognitive AI Agents: What's Beyond Generative AI

Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents are meant to augment humans and scale out scarce resources (e.g., human time and effort) by automating many tasks that humans are not good at doing or do not like to do. With the rapid advances of AI technologies and applications, it is inevitable AI agents would become a big part of our personal and professional lives. While generative AI can power AI agents with language skills, AI agents must acquire additional skills, such as active listening and reading between the lines, to become truly helpful for humans. Additionally, AI is far from perfect, and creating trustworthy and responsible AI agents is non-trivial as it requires AI expertise, sophisticated software engineering, not to mention extensive computational resources. In this talk, Michelle will explain the concept of cognitive AI agents and how to use the state-of-the-art no-code, reusable AI technologies to create Cognitive AI Agents to automate high-touch, high-value human engagements. She will use concrete examples and live demonstrations to showcase the power of such AI agents in real-world applications.

Dr. Michelle Zhou is a co-founder and CEO of Juji, Inc., an Artificial Intelligence (AI) company located in Silicon Valley, specializing in combining cognitive + generative AI to enable the creation and management of cognitive AI assistants, known as AI REPs. Michelle is a top expert in human-centered AI, an interdisciplinary field that intersects AI and HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) and an inventor of the IBM Watson Personality Insights. Her thought leadership has been featured in outlets such as The New York Times, Fast Company, Fortune, MIT Tech Review, and more. She has published 100+ peer-reviewed, refereed scientific articles and 45+ patent applications, and led the research and development of more than a dozen cutting-edge human-centered AI products and solutions. Michelle has served as the Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems (TiiS), a premier scientific journal on Human-Centered AI. She received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University and is an ACM Distinguished Scientist.
