As a neuropsychiatrist and pioneer in Integrative Psychiatry, his innovative treatments appear in major textbooks of the American Psychiatric Association Publishing and other academic publishers. His integrative treatments for improving brain function include conventional medications, herbs, nutrients, nootropics, cerebrovascular vasodilators, and other brain enhancers. Clinical trials have been validating his neurophysiological theory regarding the benefits of yoga breathing in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, cognitive function, and stress-related medical conditions. A long-term Zen meditator and a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), yoga, Qigong, and meditation, Dr. Brown worked with his wife, Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, to create Breath-Body-Mind programs for healthcare providers, survivors of mass disasters, first responders, active duty military and veterans, families, and patients with a wide range of psychiatric and medical conditions.
