▶️ This video combines content from our lessons 1-5 to give you a full overview an introduction to robotics. Here are some key points of the episode:
Lesson 1: What is a Robot? (Robots, Sense-Plan-Act)
Lesson 2: How do robots experience the world?( Sensors)
Lesson 3: How do robots see?(Cameras, Computer Vision, LiDARs, Point Clouds)
Lesson 4: How do robots know where they are?( Mapping, Occupancy Grids, Localization, Pose, Coordinate Frames, SLAM, Particle Filtering)
Lesson 5: How does a robot decide what to do?( Planning, Path Planning, Cost function, Heuristic, Costmap, Control Loop, Closed Loop, Open Loop)
Robotics is a branch of computer science and engineering that crosses over into other fields. Robotics is the study of how to design, build, run, and use robots. The goal of robotics is to make machines that can help people. And they can stand in for humans and do what humans do. Robots are the name for machines like this.
Robots can do many different things, like give directions, stock shelves, weld metal in dangerous places, and much more. Six main types of robots are used today. Examples:
Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
Articulated Robots
Humanoids
Cobots
Hybrids
Robots can be used in various scenarios for various objectives; however, the majority of robots in use today are employed in hazardous areas (such as radioactive material inspection and bomb detection and defusal), manufacturing processes, and places where people cannot survive.
Robots can now learn and digest information thanks to artificial intelligence; electronic sensors allow them to receive information about their environment and choose actions based on this data.
Robots using sensors are aware of their whereabouts. LIDAR is an example of a sensor used by some robots (Light Detection And Ranging). LIDAR is a technology that measures distance using lasers. Lasers illuminate an environment’s items, which then reflect the light. The robot analyzes these reflections to generate a map of its surroundings. LIDAR informs robots of their surroundings and their locations.
▶️Advantages of using robots:
They can get information that a human can’t get.
They can perform tasks without any mistakes and very efficiently and fast.
Maximum robots are automatic, so they can perform different tasks without needing human interaction.
Robots are used in different factories to produce items like plane, car parts etc.
As technical progress continues, robotics is now a fast-expanding field. Robotics solutions are being utilized in various industries and applications as robotics manufacturers continue introducing capabilities, cost, and form factor advancements. As a result of advancements in processing power and AI, robots can now be utilized for various vital tasks.
