International Baccalaureate (IB) Program canceled its exams in 2020 due to the epidemic and opted for an artificial intelligence algorithm to calculate students’ diploma scores. This led to an outcry among students, parents, and teachers who were concerned about the algorithmic bias for the algorithm seemed to disadvantage students with historically low performance. Could there be an alternative algorithmic system for this particular situation with acceptable bias? How can these algorithms be designed fairly? In this screencast, Zekiye addresses these questions concerning AI-Driven Decision Making and offers us an Ethically-Aligned Framework.
