AI and Game Design | The History of Artificial Intelligence In Video Games

The History of AI in games is one of close integration, as games provide tightly defined spaces where Artificial Intelligence excels in. This video traces the history of that collaboration, from computers like Deep Blue and Alphago, that beat us at chess and go, to the AI director of a game like Alien Isolation. However, there is much dispute within game design as to where AI should go in the future, whether the systems we currently have just need to be expanded on, or if we need to start incorporating machine learning, procedural systems, and dynamic narrative authors. Perhaps in studying the history of AI, we can get a glimpse of where it might be going in the future.
