India Foils Major Drone Attack from Pakistan; Turkey-Made Songar Armed Drones Used in Escalation
In a sharp escalation of hostilities, India said Pakistan launched a coordinated drone and missile attack targeting over 30 military installations from Leh to Sir Creek, deploying Turkish-made armed UAVs known as Songar. According to the Indian Army, a swarm of 300–400 drones attempted to breach airspace late Thursday, with some targeting sensitive locations like Bhatinda military station and even striking a Gurdwara, leading to casualties. India retaliated by neutralising air defence systems inside Pakistan, including in Lahore, and enforced blackouts across 15 cities. Officials said the threat was contained using kinetic and non-kinetic means, adding that India’s response was “targeted, precise, and measured” following the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
