We introduce TensorFlow Quantum, an open-source library for the rapid prototyping of novel hybrid quantum-classical ML algorithms. This library will extend the scope of current ML under TensorFlow and provides the necessary toolbox for bringing quantum computing and machine learning research communities together to control and model quantum data.

Two useful disciplines are cyber threat intelligence and active cyber defense. However, there is confusion around both of these areas that leads to a perception of hype and cost instead of vital tools for defenders to use. In the case of threat intelligence, many security companies have offered a range of threat intelligence products and feeds but there is confusion in the community as a whole as to how to maximize the value out threat intelligence. With active defense, there has been an attempt to brand this strategy as a hack-back or otherwise offense based practice whereas the strategy for an active defense has existed long before the word ‘cyber’ and is focused around practices such as incident response. This presentation will examine the current state of cyber threat intelligence and active cyber defense as well as provide strategies for leveraging proven cyber intelligence models within active cyber defense operations

Robert M. Lee is a SANS Certified Instructor and the course author of SANS ICS515: Active Defense and Incident Response and the co-author of SANS FOR578: Cyber Threat Intelligence. Robert is also CEO of Dragos Security, a non-resident National Cyber Security Fellow at New America focusing on policy issues relating to the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, and a PhD candidate at Kings College London. For his research and focus areas, he was named one of Passcode’s Influencers and awarded EnergySec’s 2015 Cyber Security Professional of the Year. Robert obtained his start in cybersecurity in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a cyber warfare operations officer. He has performed defense, intelligence, and attack missions in various government organizations including the establishment of a first-ofits-kind ICS/SCADA cyber threat intelligence and intrusion analysis mission.

Erick Mandt is a 25-year intelligence professional with broad experience in cyber counterintelligence, signals intelligence, intelligence analysis, and language analysis. He currently works as an analyst for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) open-source intelligence team where he supports a full range of law enforcement and counterintelligence investigations and operations. Erick’s research and analytical interests focus on integrating critical thinking and structured analysis processes into active cyber defense operations. Prior to joining AFOSI, Erick served 20 years as a cryptologic linguist for the U.S. Navy. He is proficient in Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian-Croatian, and Macedonian. Erick has an undergraduate degree in Russian Area Studies from Excelsior College and an MS in Cybersecurity from Utica College.

Why AI Must Be Biased, and How We Can Respond

Like physics and biology, computation is a natural process with natural laws. We are making radical progress in artificial intelligence because we have learnt to exploit machine learning to capture existing computational outputs developed and transmitted by humans with human culture. This powerful strategy unfortunately undermines the assumption that machined intelligence, deriving from mathematics, would be pure and neutral, providing a fairness beyond what is present in human society. In learning the set of biases that constitute a word’s meaning, AI also learns patterns some of which are based on our unfair history. Addressing such prejudice requires domain-specific interventions.

Joanna J. Bryson is a transdisciplinary researcher on the structure and dynamics of human- and animal-like intelligence. Her research covers topics ranging from artificial intelligence, through autonomy and robot ethics, and on to human cooperation. She holds degrees in Psychology from Chicago (AB) and Edinburgh (MPhil), and Artificial Intelligence from Edinburgh (MSc) and MIT (ScD). She has additional professional research experience from Oxford, Harvard, and LEGO, and technical experience in Chicago’s financial industry, and international organization management consultancy. Bryson is presently a Reader (associate professor) at the University of Bath, and an affiliate of Princeton’s Center for Information Technology Policy.

Dr. Vivienne Ming is a theoretical neuroscientist, technologist and entrepreneur. She co-founded Socos, where machine learning and cognitive neuroscience combine to maximize students’ life outcomes. Vivienne is also a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience, where she pursues her research in neuroprosthetics. Dr. Ming speaks frequently on her AI-driven research into the future of work, education, inclusion & gender in business, technology & society, and augmented intelligence.

The Challenges of Human Labour Automatization with Deep Learning in the Transport Industry

The key idea behind deep learning is to automate human labour, reduce the costs and reduce the time and increase precision in which a task can be done. In the transport industry things like cargo number recognition and counting of objects were first to be automated, and are now improved to a very high precision. However, there are many other tasks in the industry that can be automated, but computers are currently lacking the precision to guarantee the appliance with the industry security standards. This presentation will discuss how we have overcome some of the challenges and give an insight of the upcoming applications and their effects on industry.

The elusive quest to identify and place skilled professionals has become an obsession in the talent wars of the tech industry (not to mention in schools from K though Postdoc). We will discuss the concept of continuous passive predictive (formative) assessment, applied to both learners and professionals, from kindergärtners to (future) CEOs. Building cognitive models using unstructured data and ubiquitous sensors allows the assessment not only of concept mastery, but meta-learning development as well (e.g., “Grit” and “Social-Emotional Intelligence”). Such models can then be used to predict which content will be an effective learning experience for a given learner. In massive courses, from large college lectures to MOOCs, the models can identify ad hoc cohorts for collaborative learning.

Dr. Vivienne Ming is a theoretical neuroscientist, technologist and entrepreneur. She is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Socos, a cutting-edge EdTech company which applies cognitive modeling to align education with life outcomes. Previously, Dr. Ming was Chief Scientist at Gild, an innovative startup that builds better companies by unleashing human potential in their workforce using machine learning. She is a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience pursuing her research in cognitive prosthetics.
