AI Day is the biggest annual event highlighting the frontrunner AI research in Finland. The event brings together researchers, companies, students and the public sector involved in the fast-developing field of AI. AI Day 2020 was co-organized with the Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society and is supported by the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT. AI Day 2020: https://fcai.fi/ai-day-2020
È possibile un approccio etico all’intelligenza artificiale? La redazione di #IAGOVES ne ha parlato con Francesca Rossi, presidente dell’Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAi) e AI Ethics Global Leader per IBM.
The future will see artificial intelligent systems acting in the same environment as humans, in areas as diverse as driving, assistive technology, and health care. In this scenario, both machines and decision making systems should follow some form of moral values and ethical principles, appropriate to where they will act but always aligned to humans. Computer Scientist, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Padua, FRANCESCA ROSSI has spent her sabbatical year at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. She specialized in Artificial Intelligence, and in particular, in the use of preferences to customize decision support systems. Francesca has published more than 170 scientific papers on these issues and on ethical issues which are unavoidable in the development of Artificial Intelligence. Francesca presides some of the most prestigious institutions in the field of AI. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Her research interests focus on artificial intelligence (AI), with an emphasis on preference modelling and reasoning, constraint processing, multi-agent systems and voting theory. Among other things, she wants to study how people make decisions and compromise in social contexts, based on their preferences. On our stage she will share with us some findings of her research and elaborate on the present and future of AI. A talk about the future of AI and AI ethics, this is the first of a series of conversation on “Sustainability & Italian Innovation” with leading Italian professionals and moderated by journalist Maria Teresa Cometto. Francesca Rossi is the AI Ethics Global Leader and a Distinguished Research Staff Member at IBM Research. Her research interests focus on constraint reasoning, preferences, multi-agent systems, computational social choice, and collective decision making. On these topics, she has published over 200 scientific articles in journals and conference proceedings, and as book chapters. She is a AAAI and a EurAI fellow. She has been president of IJCAI and the Editor in Chief of JAIR. She is in the executive committee of the IEEE global initiative on ethical considerations on the development of autonomous and intelligent systems and she is a member of the board of directors of the Partnership on AI, where she represents IBM as one of the founding partners. Maria Teresa Cometto is a journalist and award-winning author based in New York. Since 2000 she has been covering business and high-tech for Corriere della Sera, the leading Italian daily, and writing for other important magazines. Co-presented by Marchigiani in America
A society of mind and machines where the complementary skills of humans and computers interact and augment each other is laid out by Francesca Rossi. Instead of fearing for the future of humanity, she convincingly argues for a collaborative vision of tomorrow in which intelligent machines help us to lead more sustainable and prosperous lives. Francesca Rossi is a full professor of computer science at the University of Padova, Italy, where her research interests focus on artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular emphasis on preference modeling and reasoning, constraint processing, multi-agent systems, and voting theory. She is a fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence and serves as president of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence from 2013 until 2015.
