My first business was a martial gym, it was a great business. I didn’t want a job but I had to pay for grad school so I turned my sport into my livelihood. The problem with my gym business was that I lived in a small town. I couldn’t operate a high traffic low conversion business. I’d be out on the street in no time if I went that route. I had to work with a low traffic high conversion model and get the most closes from a small amount of lead flow. That’s what eventually turned my on to automation architecture. Dan Fagella talks to Jason Barnard and they provide you with a 5 minute definition Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. If you want to understand, in simple terms, what all the fuss is about, watch this 5 minute explanation in the form of an intelligent and enjoyable conversation between Dan and Jason. What are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning? Artificial Intelligence is a technology where a computer aims to perform tasks that otherwise a human would need to do. What is considered to be Artificial Intelligence changes over time – what was considered to be AI in 1980, is no longer considered to be AI today (watch the video for Dan Faggella’s brilliant explanation). Machine learning is a subset of AI where humans provide a computer with vast amounts of information and give it a task to perform. The machine automatically learns and improves its performance in completing the task from experience without being explicitly programmed, even finding new and better ways to complete to task that a human would not have thought of or predicted. Link to TechEmergence Podcast: Episode Summary: Few astrophysicists are as decorated as Martin Rees, Baron Rees of Ludlow, who was a primary contributor to the big-bang theory and named to the honorary position of UK’s astronomer royal in 1995. His work has explored the intersections of science and philosophy, as well as human beings’ contextual place in the universe. In his book “Our Final Century”, published in 2003, Rees warned about the dangers of uncontrolled scientific advance, and argued that human beings have a 50 percent chance of surviving past the year 2100 as a direct result. In this episode, I asked him why he considers AI to be among one of the foremost existential risks that society should consider, as well as his thoughts around how we might best regulate AI and other emerging technologies in the nearer term.
Daniel helps leaders in finance, government and global industries cut through the artificial intelligence hype, leverage proven best-practices, and make data-backed decisions about mission-critical priorities. In this episode, we cover: Strategies for using AI in business Practical examples of AI put to use in professional services How interviewing other experts helped grow his business And much more… @danfaggella
Dan Faggella is Founder and Head of Research at Emerj and advises the UN, Interpol and global enterprises on Artificial Intelligence. He is also a former MMA coach and fighter. In this conversation we discuss: AI, social media and filter bubble creation; monopolies and power concentration in Big Tech; weaponisation of social media and AI, and the difficulties in defining what can be classed as weaponisation; whether digital media culture is fragmenting nations; autocults; blind spots in public understanding of AI; the rapid increase in capability of AI image manipulation, and the end of the correspondence between images and reality; the pace at which different sectors will be affected by AI; user experience and interface design; the difference between customer facing and backend AI applications, and the amount of error they can tolerate; the prospects of friendship, lovers, teachers and other social relationships being replaced by virtual versions; Dan’s concepts of Lotus Eaters and World Eaters – the former numbing themselves and escaping with tech, the latter radically extending their capabilities with it.
