THE FUTURE IS HERE

Designing for artificial intelligence | Karthik Mahadevan | TEDxDelftSalon

Artificial Intelligence as it has come into the foray in the recent years is a lot more focused on automation. The best of minds right now working in the field are busy decoding how to train AI to automate as much of the time-consuming human tasks as possible. Despite what sensationalist media would have you believe, ‘automation’ not ‘making robots sentient’ is the pressing goal of the AI researchers. However, one of the biggest obstacles that they currently have is that the world is not designed for AIs to comprehend. Most of the products, machines, interactions, etc that we encounter every day are designed for human users, not an artificial intelligence. Hence, at times it becomes quite a challenge for programmers and researcher to train their AI to comprehend these designed-for-humans system.

My TEDxDelftSalon talk is around the term that I have coined as ‘AI/AX Design’, which essentially means designing for interaction and experience of an AI in mind, rather than a user.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
