Ubiquitous, mobile supercomputing. Artificially-intelligent robots. Self-driving cars. Neuro-technological brain enhancements. Genetic editing. The evidence of dramatic change is all around us and it’s happening at exponential speed.

Previous industrial revolutions liberated humankind from animal power, made mass production possible and brought digital capabilities to billions of people. This Fourth Industrial Revolution is, however, fundamentally different. It is characterized by a range of new technologies that are fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, impacting all disciplines, economies and industries, and even challenging ideas about what it means to be human.

Hey @worldeconomicforum, can you please add a transcript of this video for access by people with hearing impairments, being able to watch the video without sound, potential translation, and for easier quoting of the speakers? Thanks #inclusivity

Caution: 4IR needs a "balance-standard". Without (balance of) the individual's right to live freely (and privately), 4ir will result in digital-,  mental-, physical-, financial slavery (controlled by the few [elite]), or inequality of opportunity, where the few (elite) or only the so-called  "deserving", might qualify for the benefits of the "new way of life".

I am for development, i want progress, freedom, technology: to abetter life, but not to interfere with Life. Not to control life. We need to put as much focus as improving technology, into developing our maturity around the impact of technology, to define moral values which will guide our progress and try to determine the "balance-standard" between man, machine, robot, bio-engineering, AI… and then the impact on the  individual, the family, the community, freedom and privacy to move, think, feel, to (have the right to) be individually authentic. The right to remain "unplugged" if chosen without affecting the individual's right and ability to live, contribute, love, grow, speak, think…

What concerns me about this video?:

05:08 "new period… bring (using fossil oil) to an end… We have energy technologies that can power our civilization" this is an unrealistic statement. A great dream, but Not practical to 95% of the world. This sounds like the "green new deal". Exciting, but impossible realistically (in real life).

09:57 "Freedom of thought": Don't we already have that??? In this clip: "(we need to have) access to people's thoughts" "(we need to have) access to people's emotions" "we have to create a space to enable people to think freely, to think divergent thoughts, to think creative thoughts,… Or people will fear progress…" : What? Again, what? You need access to my thoughts AND emotions to enable me to think freely? Or I will fear progress? Do you want to control my thinking and emotions to help (force) me to embrace progress. What "progress" are you referring to? Your agenda?

10:39 "we need to redefine what it means to be human, what it means to work, what it means to be completely embedded into this world…": Huh? You don't get to define for me, what it means to be human thank you! I also don't need (and have the right to choose not) to be "embedded" into this world.

I was created in God's image, in His likeness. To have an amazing daily peaceful relationship with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And I have the right to that thought, choice, belief, statement…

It is so effective how they can add minutes to a video without addressing any point at all.
If I was to watch this whole thing, I would only remember Dicaprio highlighting climate change and species extinction.
Which would end up being contra prudent because instead of unaware I would be misinformed…

Through human history, we have faced three extinction waves. The first two were far more devastating than this third one and we had nothing but rocks, sticks and fire.
So don´t belive tree-huggers who claim that our ancestors lived in harmony with nature. Long before the Industrial Revolution, Homo sapiens held the record among all organisms for driving the most plant and animal species to their extinction.
Perhaps if more people were aware of the First Wave and Second Wave extinctions, they´d be less nonchalant about the Third Wave they are part of.
Sapiens, A brief history of humankind.
Chapter: Noah´s Ark

But that is, absolutely, not the point.

Do not confuse people with climate change, focus on 4th industrial revolution direct consequences, like migration.
Or at least on producing digestible information.
You are the WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM. Soon a lot of people is going to look up to you for difficult answers.
cut the crap.

Get to the nuts and bolts! Enough of the feel good half ass fluffyness. This reminds me of science documentaries, all fluff and not enough solid information, guess I gotta hit the books again

Ryu Ken says:

YOu mean 3rd….we still are in the 2nd. Consumer base systems and the suppression of technology advancement such as free energy by those capitalists that own fossil fuel sources. The world should SUE THEM! and pay up the damage they have caused!

Pam Simonson says:

An iPad for everyone isn't shuting up the masses as something that's really useful

Pam Simonson says:

Stop asking yourself if you can be something. Just come to the realization that we need to work together as much as possible we will always have the many that won't try or care. But if you want to visualize a real future then build things that makes the masses happy. Simple things in life like public transportation will make masses happy. Free energy makes the masses happier. These types of things will help the smart ones to making us advance . Shut up the masses in a good way rather not doing anything
