At age 16, Cuban took advantage of a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette strike by running newspapers from Cleveland to Pittsburgh. During college, he had various business ventures, including a bar, disco lessons, and a chain letter. He started his own company, MicroSolutions, with support from his previous customers from Your Business Software. In 1990, Cuban sold MicroSolutions to CompuServe for $6 million. He funded the, which was later acquired by Yahoo! for $5.7 billion in Yahoo! stock. After the sale of, Cuban diversified his wealth to avoid exposure to a market crash. He is the owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. In 2011, Cuban wrote an e-book, How to Win at the Sport of Business, in which he chronicles his experiences in business and sports. I think the guy missed the point: the real strong AI could only be made up by wiring autonomous cognitive machines: machines that dont need to be supervised by humans. AI like an interface between machine and human is a joke.

FourAlexia says:

I'm currently working on AI models for e-commerce and retail websites. Can definitely say it is cool as heck to work on.

MeTwoFirst says:

If the first AI doesn't take over the world then everyone will have one – the fight begins. Big, bigger & biggest AI will rule the other until super doper AI rules them. I'll worry when my AI car has a crash and goes to the junkyard to repair itself then gives me the bill.

QJ I says:

I’m seriously both terrified and excited by this.

But I'll definitely find out!

Kevin Ho says:

Hmm interesting, to be completely honest while I know of autonomous tech existing and improving daily I never thought about it from that viewpoint. I'm not sure how this will affect/benefit me as a fine artist but then as I've said I really know nothing about it, it's something to look into at least for sure! Thanks for sharing

Nana says:

AI already conquered financial world, and it changed my life to be better 😉

MSK The Storyteller says:

I am Masters candidate in Data science, and is currently focusing on Machine Learning and AI. Roots of the researches in ML and AI could be traced back to the mid of 20th century, and like any other technology, had its moments of flourishing research and cold zones of inactivity. The original research paper on backpropogation, that is the core of Neural networks were published back in 1990's.

The current surge in interest towards ML and AI could be attributed to the data explosion and increased processing powers during our times. Case studies of ML enhancing the way businesses work, especially at Google, Amazon and Facebook is prompting businesses to follow suite, and try to leverage the technology to their advantage. The current ML algorithms are still on premature phase in the long path towards a full fledged AI. Even though the Google Assistant or Siri looks super smart to help us with our daily lives, they still have a steep growth trajectory in front of them to understand complex questions that involves collating data from various sources and deal with sparse data towards understanding user, on top of dealing with complexity and other computational roadblocks. Even many companies who wants to leverage these technologies do not have a proper plan on how to collect data and employ these techniques to their advantage.

It is great to see that a business magnate like Mark Cuban is learning about the fundamentals of these technologies to understand the full potential of ML, its limitations and ways to push the technology forward to disrupt the businesses in a positive way. In terms of whether AI would lead to making certain jobs invalid in future, I personally believe that through systematic research of the job markets, and updating of their skill sets, people can always stay ahead and find their ways in to new, challenging jobs that would be created in future.
