****Blurb from SFIS which hosted the series****

Join us for the fourth of a four-part series, “The Future of X,” a series of conversations sponsored by The School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS) at ASU, The Center for Energy in Society and the Barrett Honors College about the futures we want to create.

“Future of Artificial Intelligence” features Rao Kambhampati, professor for the School of Computing, Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering along with Miles Brundage, Ph.D. candidate for human and social dimensions of science and technology. Subbarao Kambhampati is a professor of computer science at Arizona State University, where he taught and worked on artificial intelligence for a quarter-century. His current research interests include planning and decision making for human-machine cohabitation. He is a fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and is currently the president-elect of the organization. He is
also the program chair of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2016.

More about the “Future of Artificial Intelligence”:
Symbols and neurons. Logic and probability. Replace and augment. Disappointment and doomsday: Where will the AI pendulum swing next? Since its inception, the field of a AI has seen a fascinating series of pendulum swings both in its internal research methodology and in its external public perception. We will examine some of these prominent swings to-date, and consider where the pendulum might swing next.
